China: A Personal Journal of Travels to the Middle Kingdom

Years and Years Ago I Spent Some Time in China I took some photographs with a simple camera and jotted some thoughts. I'll share little pieces of these here over the next few months. But there is one thing I remember without even looking at my notes. I  got chills on the day I realized I was in The Real China  When I was a kid, China was closed. People just didn't go there.  There was virtually no interchange between this iconic Asian country and my home country; therefore, I had zero expectation that I would  have the opportunity to travel to China. Ever. To travel there seemed well outside the sphere of the possible.  I did have the slightest degree of familiarity with the culture.  I had been to Montreal, where I thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese Garden,  in all its architectural  magnificence. This lovely setting makes up part of the Jardin Botanique, a star attraction in a star Canadian city.  I also knew a smidgeon about Chinese life ...
